Lousley Hill Trail Offers Outdoor Activities to Sereno Canyon Residents

The McDowell Mountain Regional Park is right around the corner from Sereno Canyon and promises tons of fun activities for families living in the North Scottsdale area. The park contains more than 40 miles of multi-use trails ranging in length from 0.5 miles to 15.3 miles and varying in level of difficulty as well. For individuals who are looking to ease their way into a nice day-hike, I recommend starting with one of the shorter trails, such as the Lousley Hill Trail.

This loop trail is 1.2 miles total distance and offers hikers a variety of breathtaking views of the Valley. The trail begins by leading hikers into a desert wash and then comes to a fork in the road. Following the fork to the right leads hikers up the base of Lousley Hill. The ascent begins at a slight incline and gradually increases in slope and difficulty with switchbacks guiding you up the hill. Don’t give up hope! The view at the top of the hill is well worth the climb it took to get there. With panoramic views of Four Peaks, the McDowell Mountains and Red Mountain, the summit of Lousley Hill Trail is a sight not to be missed.

Upon the descent, the trail follows the ridge of Lousley Hill where hikers get a magnificent view of the desert floor below. Cholla cacti and other regional flora and fauna surround the trail which can be an especially exciting experience for people who do not reside in Arizona. The trail winds its way down the hill and comes to a beautiful overlook. It offers the perfect spot for hikers who want to take a little break providing a concrete bench shaded by a tree.

The rest of the trail gradually descends back down to the desert wash. This loop trail can be accomplished in approximately thirty minutes. If you’re looking for a bit more of a work out, consider some of the longer trails in the area, such as the McDowell Mountain Park Trail.
